Luxurious " Nishijin Velvet " upcycled collection

Somacho is the only company in Nishijin, the birthplace of velvet, that continues to specialize in the manufacture of velvet. They have a number of beautiful archives that symbolize the 1970s-1980s era. With the desire to pass on this precious technique to future generations, they have created a jewelry box using deadstock velvet fabric.

This is the only velvet weaver left in Nishijin, the birthplace of Japanese velvet.

The first owner, Soma Chotaro, who established his own velvet business in 1933 , gained the trust of customers by using techniques that prevented the pile from flattening, and began distributing kimono coats and shawls nationwide.

The second-generation owner, Shoji Soma, continued to produce fabrics with elaborate weaves that were presented by famous designers at the Paris Collection. He also succeeded in producing the first domestically produced polyester cosmetic puff fabric, and even today the company maintains the top share in the domestic production of velvet puff fabric.
