Tama no Utena Japanese urushi with pave diamonds hoops

An elegant, jet-black palace...

Each piece is painstakingly painted with lacquer using traditional methods for wooden lacquerware. Made from Katsura wood. The gift of nature and advanced craftsmanship create a lustrous and elegant appearance. The thick hoop earrings are adorned with pavé brown diamonds, creating a piece that seems to fuse the arts of East and West.

Japanese Urushi

It took about four months for the craftsman to make it in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The wood is cut from the logs, and after the priming process, the lacquer is applied in layers, starting with the undercoat, middle coat, and top coat. All processes are done by hand, using a technique called "fresh lacquering," which finishes the piece as it is without polishing it. After many years, it is an important Japanese craft technique that should be passed down into the future.

The wood is ground from the raw wood, and after the base process, the undercoat, coat middle, top coat and lacquer are applied repeatedly. All processes are done by hand using a technique called "Nuritate (means freshly-painted)" that finishes without polishing as it is applied.
